7 - Foot Center Vying for Fifth Career Championship in Uruguay's Lub

September 2, 2014, Chicago, IL - Former University of Illinois - Chicago center Scott VanderMeer has signed a contract to play with Team Malvin in the Uruguay-LUB for the 2014-15 season. The 7 - foot center has racked up 4 championship titles in his career spanning Switzerland, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela and a title in the NBA D-League.

Playing internationally where the style of play varies greatly from country to country has allowed Scott to become a true student of the game. He incorporates multiple styles of basketball into his own approach.

Last season playing in the Japan's NBDL, Scott averaged a double-double with 19.9 PPG and 13.2 RPG. With last season's statistical success and after narrowly missing a fifth championship, Scott is optimistic at the prospect of another Championship in Uruguay with Team Malvin.

'Team Malvin in Uruguay has always been a top tier team in the LUB.  Last year they won the championship and I feel it was a great situation for me to be with a winning organization,' said Scott. 'I played in Uruguay two years ago for playoffs and loved ever second of it.  The fans and people of the city where amazing.  I am excited to go back this week.'

Having already spent time playing in Uruguay, Scott is fortunate to be accustomed to the level of competition and the skill level needed to be successful in the LUB. That being said, he didn't leave anything to chance this summer as he prepared for the upcoming season.

'I was training in Cincinnati, Ohio at Ignition. It was a training facility that worked out a lot of the NFL Bengals players.  I got my body where it needs to be to have another successful year,' described Scott when talking about his offseason routine.

As if Scott needs to prove anything else to anyone, like the true mark of a champion, he knows it's about the end result more than his own stats.

'Looking past this season, my goal is always simple; to help the team I am on win every game and to win a championship,' said Scott. 'I will do whatever it takes to the best of my ability to make it happen. My ultimate goal is to play basketball as long as I possible can.'
