Tony Bennett Ranks as MVP of Nike Chicago League
AUGUST 5, 2014, CHICAGO, IL - There is a couple weeks left of the Team Nike Chicago basketball league, but it's clear Tony Bennett is the summer's standout star.
After spending the 2013 - 14 season with the London Lightning as part of the NBL Canada, where he was given an ALL - NBLC Honorable Mention and averaged 14.69 points per game, the Chicago - native brought his global ball experience back home. Bennett's overseas experience also includes time in Finland, Mexico, France and Lithuania.
'While my time on with Team Nike Chicago is great for my health and career, personally the most important part is what I'm doing for my city,' said Bennett. 'Being on this team brings great attention to players and gives them great publicity, but I'm more concerned with the good it does for the city of Chicago.'
He was recently named the league's All - Star MVP after coming back from 15 down to beat the Bynum All - Star Team. He came out with four points in the first half but ultimately turned it up in the second half finishing the game with a total of 31.
Additionally, the point guard is in the top three for scoring and ranks as number one for free throw attempts per game.
'It was a great experience,' said Bennett about the MVP title. 'It was definitely in my top two moments of this year so far, and to be playing amongst some of the best players in Chicago and still stand out as MVP…it's just incredibly exciting.'
After the league wraps up for summer, Bennett is looking to continue his streak abroad, with the possibility of returning to London still on the table.
'All that's on my mind right now is landing my next contract,' said Bennett about his career goals. 'I'm blessed to play ball professional, and to have the opportunity to even have a contract is something I'm thankful for. So I'm happy and grateful for however things turn out.'
