Ole Miss Running Back Jeff Scott Signed as Bengals Free Agent
MAY 14, 2014, OXFORD, MI - A true Rebels secret, Jeff Scott has signed an NFL contract with the
Cincinnati Bengals as a free agent.
The Bengals picked up Scott in the free agency portion following the 2014 NFL draft on Saturday,
Scott ranks third nationally in punt return average, and ranks ninth in school history with 1,804 rushing yards, 2,966 all-purpose yards and ranks tenth with 15 rushing touchdowns. Scott's Rebels career yielded the following stats:
Rushing: 446 attempts 2,297 yard 17 touchdowns 5.2 average
Receiving: 59 Receptions 408 yards 1 touchdown 6.9 average
The Miami native is elated to begin his NFL career in Cincinnati.
'This is the moment I've been waiting for,' said Scott of the news. 'This is a dream that's been a long time in the making. It's something really important to me and my family, and I'm blessed to be a part of the Bengals organization. Now I just want to do everything in my power to help this team win some games, and maybe even a championship.'
A string of successful running backs have come out of Ole Miss' rich football history, including Brandon Bolden (free agent - 2012) and Deuce McAllister (2001 - 1st round).
Scott's agent, Derek Spearman, also shared his joy for Scott's future with the Bengals.
'Jeff put up tremendous numbers during his pro day, and had excellent results from all his private workouts,' said Spearman. 'I'm very excited for him to be picked up by the Bengals.'
The Bengals will begin their 2014 season on Sunday, September 7 against the Ravens in Baltimore, with Scott as one of their latest lineup additions.
