Houston Texans Select Anthony McClung as Free Agent
MAY 14, 2014, CINCINNATI, OH - On Saturday, May 10, the Houston Texans signed Anthony McClung, former top receiver at the University of Cincinnati, as a free agent.
The Indianapolis native was named one of the top 200 receivers by Scout.com and played for the Indiana Super Team. During his time at the University of Cincinnati, the wide receiver hauled in 177 receptions for 2,378 yards and 15 touchdowns.
'I was excited upon hearing the news,' said McClung on being a Texan. 'It's a great opportunity to showcase my talent, and something I'm very grateful and thankful for. I'm just ready to get out there and play football again!'
McClung follows a long line of Bearcats wide receivers that have played in the NFL, including Mardy Gillyard (2003 - 4th round) and Chad Plummer (1999 - 6th round).
James Peterson, McClung's NFL agent, also spoke of his client's career ambitions.
'This is a great situation for Anthony to be in, to get immersed in a new coaching staff,' said Peterson. 'The Texans are building up a whole new offense, and since they didn't draft any wide receivers this year, it gives Anthony an opportunity to have a successful career with them.'
The Texans will begin their 2014 season on Sunday, September 7 against the Redskins in Houston, where McClung fans will get their first opportunity to see him back on the gridiron.
