Lobos Kicker/Punter Greg Rivara to Try Out for Dolphins
MAY 14, 2014, ALBUQUERQUE, NM - He may not have gotten an opportunity in the NFL in the 2013 season, but that didn't deter Greg Rivara from continuing to follow his NFL dreams: the former University of New Mexico kicker/punter has been selected to attend mini-camp with the Miami Dolphins for his shot at a roster spot.
An Albuquerque native, Rivara ranked 13th nationally during his time with the New Mexico Highlands, averaging 58.9 yards per kick off. As a Lobo, he kicked an average of 63.69 yards, making him 9th overall in Division I and first in the Mountain West Conference.
'I just want to go out there and show my ability as a player,' said Rivara of his upcoming Dolphins tryout. 'I've been playing this position for a long time and I've been training for years, so this is an exciting time.'
Only a handful of punters/kickers were selected in this year's draft, including Pat O'Donnell (Bears - 6th round) and Nate Freese (Lions - 7th round).
Rivara will head to Miami this weekend to take part in the most important and unique job interview of his life!
